Work Experience at Lancaster University
My name Robbie Walsh and I attend Lancaster Royal Grammar School. On Monday 14th October 2000, I began my work experience placement at the Environmental Science Department at Lancaster University.

My supervisor, Anne Wilkinson (senior teaching techician), gave me a general idea of the tasks I would be undertaking. This mainly involved the setting up of practicals for the students. These practicals were concerned with environmental science and involved calculating the amount of certain metals in soil samples and water samples I participated in some of these experiments myself. The results I obtained were sufficient to obtain a firm conclusion. I made an itinery of the chemicals in the cupboard and entered them into an inventory in Excel. I checked the autopippetors and helped to clean and maintain a part of the lmass spec. source in the research laborotory upstairs.

I made standards containing different concentrations of metals for the experiments and developed twenty radon films.

I have enjoyed my placement here at the University very much. I would like to thank Anne and Vicky, my supervisors.
