Neil is researching the use of the radioactive noble gas radon as a tracer in hydrological systems. His main area of interest is in the interactions between groundwater and river water and the potential of radon to provide information about flow paths and processes. The studentship is funded by NERC (Ref: NER/S/A/2004/12162) with CASE support from CEH Wallingford and is being run in conjunction with the NERC Lowland Catchment Research (LOCAR) programme

Prior to commencing studies at Lancaster Neil completed his first degree (MChem) at the University of Wales, Swansea and worked for the Environment Agency Wales investigating the pollution impacts of historic metal mines. He spends most of his spare time in the outdoors, usually climbing.
