Lava flow dynamics

Researchers at Lancaster University have been developing innovative approaches to the study of lava flows for over 25 years. Our current research includes:

  • Photogrammetry and thermal imaging of active lava flows
  • Mathematical models of lava flow emplacement
  • Laboratory measurements of lava rheology
  • Investigation into fracture and faulting of high-temperature lava
