Professor Harry Pinkerton Professor of Physical Volcanology, Head of Department Email: h.pinkerton at lancaster.ac.uk Tel: +44 (0)1524 593912 Fax: +44 (0)1524 593985 Professor Harry Pinkerton's research activities on the physical properties and emplacement mechanisms of active lava flows have taken him to a range of volcanoes including Oldoinyo Lengai, an active volcano in Northern Tanzania, Kilauea on Hawaii, and Mount Etna in Sicily. He has developed models which are used to assess volcanic hazards, and his laboratory investigations include rheologial investigations of lavas and multi-phase fluids. His interests have recently expanded to include investigations on the formation of lava tubes, thermal imaging of active volcanoes, slope instability mechanisms, field and laboratory geophysical measurements of lavas, and detailed field studies of subglacial eruption mechanisms in Iceland. |
