VANCOUVER AIRPORT ARRIVAL DETAILS AND PICK-UPS.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE TO TELL IAN SKILLING (skilling@pitt.edu) your flight arrival details at Vancouver airport, so that we can arrange a pick-up. We will endeavor to pick up everyone who has provided their details.
MORE DETAILS ON THE PICK-UP PROCEDURE (WHERE, WHEN AND WITH WHOM) TO FOLLOW VERY SHORTLY
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO SHUTTLES FROM THE HOTELS IN VANCOUVER TO THE CONFERENCE DURING THE TIME OF THE CONFERENCE, BUT THE BUSES ARE OF COURSE VERY FREQUENT
Airport Pickup: because almost none of the flights on the 18th are coming in at the same
time, and because delays/early arrivals are likely with the number of
flights, we will not have a rigid schedule of pickups from the airport.
Instead, we will be monitoring arrivals on the 18th, and will come to
the airport when we have the opportunity to get the most people. We will
still end up making the same number of trips, but hopefully there will
be much less waiting and more people will get a ride.
Instructions: for international travellers, you will exit the secure area
(after passing customs and getting luggage) in a large atrium with two
big wooden statues. This is the international arrivals area, and that's
where we will be picking people up. A volunteer will be there wearing a
VII2 t-shirt (black) and hopefully holding a sign with your name on it.
For domestic travelers: you will exit at the domestic arrivals area--get
your luggage, and then make your way to the international arrivals area.
That means going up one level (to level 3), walking down the terminal,
then going back down to level 2 to international arrivals (there is no
direct connection on level 2 between arrival areas).
If there is nobody there to meet you, and you don't feel like waiting
for the next ride, there are numerous taxis waiting outside the
international arrivals area. We have already sent maps and driving
instructions from the airport.
A map of UBC Campus is here and map of Vancouver hotels is here

A map indicating this route is available here.
Transit: those of you not staying on campus may choose to take transit to UBC during the conference. A trip planner for Vancouver transit is available here.
Parking on UBC Campus: if you choose to use a car to get to the campus, then we would suggest parking in the West Parkade. It's pretty expensive ($1.50 per hour up to $12.00 per day) but that's basically the only option unless you want to park off campus. West parkade is quite close to EOS building. Here's more info:

For short term parking, there are meters beside the EOS building (up to 2 hours) or for VERY short term parking there is a loading dock behind EOS.
