Seismic activity is frequently associated with volcanoes but may not necessarily lead to an eruption. This seismicity is believed to result from the both shear processes within the rock itself and the dynamics of the fluid systems within a volcano. The main aim of my project is to establish a link between the type of seismic signals generated and their source mechanisms using laboratory models of volcanic systems order to make inferences about the dynamics within real volcanic systems.
