Professor of Physical Volcanology

Main research activities:

• modelling the emplacement of lava flows
• designing and using laboratory and field equipment to measure the rheological properties of lavas
• physical properties of silicate and carbonatite magmas
• sub-glacial volcanic eruption mechanisms
• slope instability on volcanoes utilising mm wave radar and ground probing radar in volcanology
• the use of anisotropic magnetic susceptibility in volcanology
