Mapping Tracer Movement in Unsaturated Sandstone

Mapping Tracer Movement in Unsaturated Sandstone
Cross Borehole Electrical Resistivity Tomography

From successive images of resistivity we can determine changes in moisture content and pore fluid conductivity of the soil and rock

The following images show changes in resistivity due to a saline tracer injected in a shallow borehole near the centre of the borehole array at the Hatfield field site. The image sequence shows the isosurface of changes above 7.5% from the pre-tracer conditions. The tracer was injected on the 14th and 15th March. The effect of lower permeability layers can be seen to impede vertical movement of the tracer.
