SLUGS EVENTS FROM SEPTEMBER 2006 TO EASTER NEXT YEAR
The long awaited Autumn event list is out at last!
Having failed miserably to secure a commitment from anyone to organise an event, we've booked some hut weekends and woven in between them some free dates from our action-packed calendar. If you want to add anything, let us know and we'll email it round every-one.
If you want to offer an activity for our dates in November and February, please do. Otherwise we'll decide at the last minute to make sure something weather- appropriate is happening.
Weekend 23/24th September: Wasdale
Staying at the Fell and Rock's Brackenclose Hut, a new venue for Slugs and a great location. Grid Ref 185073
Adults can stay in the hut or else camp outside. Children under 13 must camp but can use all the hut facilities
(including cooking and eating) between 8am and 8pm. We won't have sole use of the hut (though it's
usually pretty quiet) so contact Anne and Ken quickly to reserve your bed, or find out more.
Anne and Ken: 01200 425841
Sunday 8th October: Daresbury
The annual open day at Daresbury Laboratory, near Warrington. Guided tours, hands-on science,
and talks throughout the day.
Phone Anne and Ken on 01200 425841, or Pete and Meg on 01925 263507
Sunday 19th November: Unplanned event
Will it involve mountain-biking in the dark? Will Phil organise a caving trip?
How about a nice walk in the Howgills? Or an indoor day on a big climbing wall?
Or perhaps it will happen on Saturday 18th instead! Keep your wits about you, and contact
Anne the week before! Tel. 01200 425845
16/17th December: Buttermere
The last weekend before Christmas, and a lovely time to be in the Lakes. Staying in the
Coach House, our popular venue on the shore of the Lake, GR 186160
Bring food for a communal Saturday evening meal, and a gentle start to the festive season.
(Last year, in Langdale, we had music and a real Christmas tree!)
Phone Anne and Ken as usual.
Saurday 27th January: Orienteering at Pettypool Wood
Orienteering can be done quickly or slowly, as competitively as you like, and is a
good excuse to be out in the fresh air at a cold grey time of year. Courses suitable
for adults and children. If you've not tried it yet, come along! Pettypool is near Warrington.
Contact Pete and Meg on 01925 263507 or Anne and Ken on 01200 425841
Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th February: Unplanned event
A chance to do one of the things we didn't do back in November!
Contact Anne and Ken
Weekend 3/4th March: Anne's Fortyniner, Rawhead Langdale
A good time for a weekend in the Lakes, and since I'm 49 on March 3rd, a good excuse for
a birthday party. Bring communal party food and your favourite dance music. I'll work on
John to fetch his bubble machine and fairy lights!
Usual outdoor activity will also take place: If we have a fall-back plan of Quilting with
Rosie like last year, we'll be guaranteed good weather!
Weekend 24th/25th March: Aviemore
Will it be: a) late skiing b)early mountain-biking c)Munro-bagging d)none of these?
Make your selection and grab your place on the trip. Eight beds are booked, extra can
be arranged. Cost £5 per night for luxury FRCC hut in the centre of Aviemore.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL, via Ken and Anne (01200 425841)
7/8/9thApril is Easter weekend
Anybody got any plans yet? If you're going away and fancy some Sluggy company, let us
spread the word for you. For the sport-climbing afficionados, Anne and Ken will probably
be hitting the rock in the South of France 1st - 15th April. Let us know if you might be
interested in coming.
Trailer bike for sale:
We passed Matthew's trailer bike to friends Marc and Wendy a few years ago, and now
they're looking to pass it on again. Phone them in Blackburn on 01254 812786 for all the details.
And finally: The Web Site
On the website we keep a section called 'Recent Events' where we post photos and reports
so you can see what's been happening.
