SLUGS Newsletter – November 2001

Tresviso nostalgia website: Due to the demise of free4all the old website has gone, but we've found it another home at <>. Note that there’s no www in the address. It was last updated in July. If anyone else has any pictures to share, then please send them to Sue and George <>.

This newsletter can also be accessed via the SLUGS website at < index.html>. There’s also a collection of pics from old expeditions - if you have more that are suitable, send them to Ian Edmondson.

Lancaster and district Slugs have started an ancient custom of meeting in the Gregsons Bar, Moor Lane, Lancaster, on the last Friday in the month, 9-ish onwards. Drop in if you’re free and/or in the area. See also 30 November below.

10-11 November - Langdale. The FRCC hut at Raw Head, Great Langdale, is booked for the weekend. Superb walking and climbing. Contact Ken and Anne for details, 01254 883934

Sunday 18 November - Helvellyn. Traverse Helvellyn on bikes in appalling weather! Contact Pete Owens if you’re keen: 01925 263507.

Friday 30 November - DIY slide show at the Gregson Institute, Lancaster. This is in fact a non-slug event organised by Ros Riden (Ellwood), but all Slugs are welcome. Bring up to 12 of your favourite slides, on a (loose) caving theme, for the delight and embarrassment of all. For more details contact Chris Baxter 01524 751975 or Phil 01524 37688; the latter if you want sleeping places.

STOP PRESS: the next two items have changed since the printed newsletter was posted. Please inform anyone you know who is not on e-mail and might be interested.

31 December - New Year’s Eve. Jeanne Holman is hosting the traditional party at Strathyre, Hazel Grove Road, Sutton-in-Craven, N. Yorks, BD20 7QT - contact 01535 635952 for details.

January - Ski trip. A Slugs child-friendly ski trip is being organised for mid-January, although no bookings have been made just yet. Contact John Boardman 0777 5796270 or Jeanne Holman 01535 635952 for details.

22-23 February 2002 - Crianlarich. Postponed from last year because of foot-and-mouth, the Ochils Hut is now booked for a weekend of walking, (winter) climbing, skiing, etc. Contact Ken and Anne, 01254 883934.

More events wanted for spring and summer 2002!

Plans are afoot for a SLUGS dinner in September/October (or some other time), if we can find a suitable venue (Horton-in-Ribblesdale looks promising). Contact Sue I’Anson if you’re interested or can suggest somewhere.

I’m trying to get as many Slugs’ e-mail addresses as possible - it cuts down on the mailing costs and delays in receiving the newsletter. So let me know if you’re on e-mail. Phil Johnstone, 48 Rydal Road, Lancaster, LA1 3HA. 01524 37688. E-mail:
