(ii)New Grants and Appointments
A new project funded by the NW Grid started in October. This will
involve collaboration with the Lancaster University InfoLab to develop systems
for pervasive environmental sensors to be networked dynamically and feed data
back to distributed computing models of environmental processes in real time.
The first application to be looked at will be to network some water level
sensors with the aim of improving predictions of flood inundation at flood prone
sites.
Nihinlola Saka from Nigeria has joined the group as a PhD student,
sponsored by Schlumberger International, to work on modelling the estuary of the
River Niger.
