Airborne Platform for Earth Observation

This is the web page of the A.P.E. UK OFFICE

The Airborne Platform for Earth Observation (A.P.E.) is an international scientific programme to study the Earth and its atmosphere using a high altitude research aircraft the Geophysica.

A.P.E. was first established as the Airborne Polar Experiment, an Italo-Russian collaboration to study the physics and chemistry leading to stratospheric ozone loss. Thanks to inputs from other agencies, A.P.E. has developed into the more general Airborne Platform for Earth Observation, with offices in Florence and Lancaster. The Lancaster office is headed by Dr A.R. MacKenzie, and is situated in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Lancaster University. The Florence office (APE HQ), is situated at IROE-CNR and is led by Dr Leopoldo Stefanutti.
