How do I do my research?

Here are some of the things I do:
  • Fieldwork: mapping of large- and small-scale features in lavas and fragmental rocks
  • Lab work:
    -measurement of volatile concentrations using thermogravimetry and infrared spectroscopy
    -petrographic study of igneous textures in thin section
    -deformation experiments on lava samples
  • Mathematical modelling - simple calculations and analytical models of physical processes
  • Increasingly - write grant applications to fund future projects
  • Decreasingly - faff around (at least that's the plan!)
