Volcanoes I've studied
- Lava domes: Mt St Helens (US), Montserrat (West Indies), Unzen (Japan)
- Explosive eruptions: Puyehue-Cordon Caulle (Chile), Taupo (New Zealand), Mono Craters (US), Santorini (Greece)
- Volcano-ice interactions: Torfajokull, Krafla, Helgafell, Prestahnukur (Iceland), Nevados de Chillan (Chile)
- Basaltic lava emplacement: Etna (Italy)
I will soon start to work at other volcanoes, including Chaiten in Chile, Santiaguito in Guatemala and the Rum caldera in Scotland.

These are some of my most memorable experiences on volcanoes:
1. Watching an obsidian lava flow advance and filming Vulcanian explosions from up close, Puyehue-Cordon Caulle, Chile, 2012
2. Seeing violent strombolian explosions up close on Etna and hearing bombs whistle, 1997
3. Camping in the crater of Mt St Helens with the growing dome only 3 km away, 2006
4. Watching the sun rise from the rim of Askja caldera, Iceland, 1996
5. Descending into the crater of Grimsvotn, Iceland, 2002
6. Close encounters with condors on Nevados de Chillan, Chile, 2002
..and I'm hoping to have many more!
